Adaline, the Tulip: A Lesson in Speaking Life

Hey dear readers, meet Adaline—her name means “Noble” in German. Funny how I would name a flower, right? I know. My family is used to it by now; they’ve seen me name inanimate objects and even catch me chatting with them sometimes. I’m that lady who can have a conversation with anyone and anything—no shame in that, lol.

But let me slow down my rant and give you some context. On Tuesday morning, while my husband and I were outside getting some work done, my son decided that one of my tulips—standing beautifully in the garden—deserved closer admiration. And so, he plucked it.

Naturally, I was slightly upset. My wonderful child has a habit of appreciating my plants a little too up-close! So, I placed the tulip in a vase and let it sit on the dining table. Day by day, I watched this single flower bloom, revealing all she was made of.

Then, on Thursday morning, as I sat down for breakfast with my husband, we found ourselves speaking words of admiration over the tulip. That was when I asked my daughter to give her a name. And so, Adaline was born.

Later that day, after laughing together over my husband’s healthy joke about our newly named flower, I came back downstairs and saw something remarkable—Adaline had opened even more, looking even more stunning than she did that morning.

Now, I know what you’re thinking—what’s with the rant? Get to the lesson already. But I promise you, this is important. Let this moment be a reminder that there is power in your words. Speak life.

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue.” – Proverbs 18:21

I love how God continues to remind me of this truth through the seemingly small things—the moments that most people might overlook. He speaks in everything, if we’re mindful enough to notice.

Whatever situation you’re facing right now, speak life. Speak about what you envision. Watch how things turn around.

All my other tulips are thriving outside, but witnessing how this single one responds to spoken words—it’s something only God could orchestrate.

I hope this blesses you as much as it has me.

Have a beautiful day. Speak life!

Shalom 🙏🏼
