TRAVEL LIGHT

“But now,” he said, “take your money and a traveler’s bag. And if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one!

Luke 22:36 NLT

The sword here refers to the word of God. Jesus is telling His disciples to grab hold of the most important thing on the journey they were about to embark on.

-How do you then sharpen your sword(The word) once you have it?

Study to show yourself approved…(2Tim 2:15). The word you put in now will come handy for when it is needed.
Use this time as your study time. While memorizing is good, don’t beat yourself up when you are not able to. When you put it there, the Holy Spirit will bring it out of you when it is needed.

-Why do we need this sword(word)?

It’s an emblem of authority, power, triumph & protection.

In Summary,  Jesus is reminding us to travel light,
to set aside every weight that slows us down(Heb.12:1),  but most importantly, to have His word in our hearts.

Be safe under His wings.

WHAT MORE CAN A GIRL ASK FOR?

I’m currently reading Joyce Meyer’s book “Making Good Habits Breaking Bad Habits” and one part that stood out to me was where she stressed on the importance of laughter as part of a good happy habit.

“…but there are many things that we let make us sad when it would be better if we laughed more.”

(pg.90)

Good books always make me reminisce about my past and how far God has brought me. He really has restored to me the years I lost in ways at the time I could never have imagined coming out from. I am genuinely happy and thankful for my family. My husband switching from serious to goofy is part of his unique personality and a delight to watch first hand. Similarly, my daughter teaches me to find joy in little things and that simple trait in my eyes is out of this world. Then I have my son who is just a bundle of energy radiating with joy and happiness rolled into one. He goes about his day without a care in the world, trusting that mommy and daddy will provide and catch him when he falls. I see why God says to us to be like little children.

On days I feel out of character by worrying about tomorrow that is really not promised, I learn through watching my family to be in the present and trust that God has started good work which he will complete. Yes, what more can a girl ask for?

A grateful heart.

“Slow Down.”

On my way to work one morning I was caught in traffic, which seemed to have appeared out of thin air. One minute I’m cruising down my usual route and the next minute, without warning, I’m in the middle of an endless stream of vehicles. As every car slowly plodded along, a few decided to make a U-turn to find an alternate way around our sorry predicament. Their decision to turn back seemed very strange to me because a different way would actually take longer to get to their destination. As painful as it was to sit through that traffic I knew it was my only bet to get to work in time.

A thought clearly crossed my mind in that moment about our predicament as human beings. Are we willing sometimes to wait for the right moment before we make a decision or want something? Do we make impulsive decisions that only take us back to where we started thinking we are actually moving forward?

Considering how bad the traffic was that first few minutes we inched our way forward and shortly thereafter everything went back to normal. Whatever was causing the traffic jam wasn’t that serious at all!

When you find yourself at a crossroads don’t be quick to make a U-turn. There are benefits in the waiting and not every pause in your life is bad or negative. The “slow down” moment doesn’t mean you are not working hard enough or things aren’t going your way. It might mean just that…slow down.

MY WAYWARD CHILDREN

A wayward person is someone who is difficult to control or predict because of their unusual or perverse behavior.

God called the children of the Israelites in Jeremiah 3 wayward as He pleaded for them to come back to Him. As I read through the first few chapters of Jeremiah, I couldn’t help but think of believers who were once on fire for Christ yet because of different circumstances, they purposefuly walked away. Similarly, I thought of my own personal walk with God. There are times I’ve faltered. There are times I’ve felt overwhelmed. Yet in the midst of it all I’ve felt God lead me back despite my uncertainty.

People have their reasons for abandoning God. Sometimes it’s actually because they feel God abandoned them first in their hour of need. However, just as God pleaded with the Children of the Israelites, He is calling and pleading with you to return home, repent of your sins and ask Him back into your heart.

“Behold I stand at the door and knock…” (Revelations 3:20). He is calling you to come back to him so he can “heal your wayward hearts.” ( Jeremiah 3:22). And He Himself will direct you to the right shepherd who will guide you with knowledge and understanding. Will you yield to that call, before it is too late?

God is always willing to listen. God is always willing to give you a chance. I can’t stress it enough. Read the word of God for yourself rather than rely on what others tell you.

Thanks for stopping by and as you read through this, it is my prayer that it speaks to the depth of your soul.

Remain blessed.
Rachel Ochieng.
